A story of grief and pain from a family of a COVID-19 positive patient was shared online through Esquire Magazine PH where the daughter in law of PH 129 stated everything their family had went through especially when the people had figured out about it. According to her, instead if being compassionate, everyone cowered in fear.
Her story began when her family and Yeye, PH 12, met one day in a mall in Makati to have a lunch. She emphasized that when she was PH 129, he did not look particularly off. No one ever suspected one of them could have contracted the virus especially that time, according to her, the panic on COVID-19 is not yet present and the positive cases are still low.
"On the morning of March 11, my mother-in-law informed us that Yeye had dry cough and a fever. They went to a testing facility, but were eventually directed to a hospital where they spent nearly the entire day in the emergency room." She wrote.
And it was a orture of waiting and anxiety, as they had already thoughts it could may be the dreaded coronavirus but still, no one uttered a thing.
And despite of relentlessly calling the Hospital to know the result, the administrators kept their mouth shut.
Until there was a tweet about the newest positive case and every information of the patient greatly resembles their Yeye.
"PH129 was remarkably similar to my father-in-law: same age, same hospital, same city, same “no known exposure.” The only difference was the date indicated for when symptoms appeared." She shared.
It was a long run before it was confirmed and all of them who had a close contact before PUI. But it was not long until the people fund out that they are PH 129's family.
"The day after Yeye died, I received a screencap of a message saying that both my parents-in-law were dead from the virus. I would receive numerous copies of that text in the hours to come.
"My mother-in-law received a message saying that her mother was dead. My husband's aunt received another message that I was dead.
"Fear makes sympathy inconvenient."
She also wrote that none of the PUI's are showing significant symptoms.
"Remember that COVID-19 is about people as it is the numbers." She continued.
