Maricel Azuelo Garcia is just like any of us. She is an
employee just trying to make ends meet. Sometimes, however, her monthly salary
proves insufficient for her expenses. Like what many of us would do, she at
times borrows money from friends, colleagues, and even their office.
She had no idea that all this would lead to a humiliating
experience. If Maricel’s name sounds familiar, you must have driven past an
EDSA billboard that featured her face and name! No, she’s not a model. Like we
said, she’s just an ordinary person like the rest of us.
That’s why she complained to Raffy Tulfo about her
billboard. She explained it was her employer who put the billboard up. It was
because she has some outstanding company loans. Maricel said she actually
struck a deal with her employer that she would no longer have to pay said loan
if she extended her stay in the company, which she did.
Now, the employer started pointing fingers at another
official of the company. Basically, he started washing his own hands saying he
had nothing to do with it.
But Raffy Tulfo will not budge. He threatened to revoke the license of the advertising agency for abuse of power since they used their the business of billboards to humiliate and publish libelous remarks on an
employee, on EDSA, no less.
On a daily basis, a lot of netizens complain about their friends and family members who go remiss on paying their loans and debts. But all of them are still in agreement that Maricel was treated unfairly in that billboard. How would you feel if you’re already struggling financially and then one company ends up spending thousands and thousands of money just to shame you?
Luckily, the employers have their fair share of fear when it
comes to Raffy Tulfo. They agreed to take the billboard down as soon as
possible, and Maricel decided to let it go even though she could actually bring
the case to court if only to make problems for the company that did her wrong.
