Novel coronavirus is from the city of Wuhan, in the province of Hubei in China. In its first week, more than 100 died from the infection and 6,000 were affected. In the Philippines, there have been a total of 140 cases as of March 16. Most of the reported cases were in Metro Manila, the country's capital. In order to contain the virus, the government has already imposed a community quarantine on Metro Manila starting on March 15 lasting until April 15.
What can you do to protect yourself against the virus? As of now, there's still no cure to coronavirus, so prevention is the key when it comes to protecting yourself. You must also be familiar with the symptoms early on since the virus has between 7-14 days of the incubation period.
Common symptoms of coronavirus are fever, cough, cold or respiratory problems. In severe cases, it can cause pneumonia, acute respiratory syndrome, death. Human-to-human transmission of the virus occurs when the person who carries it is approached, for example, at home, at work, or in the hospital.
Consult your nearest health facility immediately if you have symptoms such as fever, cough, and colds. There is no drug or vaccine against 2019-nCoV yet. It is best to relieve symptoms or primary care for those who are infected.
Always wash your hands with soap and water. Avoid close contact with people with fever, cough, and cold. Make sure the foods are clean and well-cooked. Masks are not proven in protecting you from the virus, and it is only necessary for sick people or caregivers.
