A man who was alone in the isolated roads of EDSA was patiently holding a card sign, asking for the drivers to help him out and give him a free ride towards his relatives in Bataan became viral on social media recently after the GMA reporter Tina Panganiban Perez posted his photo on her Instagram account.
Anthony, who was kicked out by his wife after quarreling about “financial reasons" when he got fired from his work amid COVID-19 outbreak, after his work mate got sick.
He bravely stood on the corner of the road, holding a sign that says “Pasakay po, [wala] po [akong] pera.”
After the Enhanced Community Quarantine order by President Rodrigo Duterte, the total travl ban was implemented as well, prohibiting public vehicles to travel around Metro Manila.
According to Anthony, he was planning to hitchhike going Pangasinan or Bataan, where his relatives live.
“Hindi pa naman sigurado kung COVID, pero handa naman po akong magpa-quarantine kung patutuluyin nila ako.” GMA quoted him saying, when asked about his speculations about contracting the disease.
On Panganiban IG post, she wrote her small encounter with Anthony and helped him call out for help.
“We chanced upon Anthony while driving through Edsa. He was planning on hitchhiking to Bataan or Pangasinan where he had relatives.
“Anthony worked in a pharmacy but because of Covid19, he had been having money problems. He said he was willing to undergo the mandatory quarantine if his relatives would take him in.” the journalist said.
A lot of netizens shared and commented on the post, wishing a good Samaritan to come and take him for a ride.
