Body shaming is no longer tolerated in the world because people have learned to accept their looks and love themselves. However, the Philippines still adhere to the Western standard of beauty where girls should be slim and white while men should have toned muscles, a six pack abs, and be white to be considered beautiful.
Don't get me wrong. There's no harm in trying to better yourself and be healthier. And that's exactly what Aria Estrella did for herself.
Aria was born into a family with genetically thicker build. That's especially true when girls from her family reach 18. However, everything went downhill for her after getting dumped by her ex-boyfriend. Because of her sadness, she immediately gained weight up to 73 kilos!
But everything changed for her when she heard the whispers of two women on the train, who kept making fun of the poor girl because of her size. She decided to transform herself to show to people that she can do it, too!
Aria tried going to the gym but found that it is too tedious for her. She did not lose hope, though. She decided to work out in the confines of her home by following workout videos and eating proper meals.
And as you can see, the young lady's hard work indeed paid off! After 5 months of sweating it out and eating the right food, Aria went from 73 kilos down to 51 kilos! Her story became viral because it serve as an inspiration to any Filipina, -- any woman-- who wants to change herself for the better.
She even has this to say for everyone who believed and supported her:
"My current weight is 51 kilos. Pwede pong magwork or hindi sa inyo ang diet na ginawa ko. Iba iba po tayo ng katawan. Ibat iba rin po tayo ng experiences sa buhay. Ang maadvice ko po sa inyo is Love Yourself first. Surround yourself with positive people na tanggap kayo ano man ang size ng katawan nyo. Mga taong mahal kayo despite ng lahat ng pinagdadaanan nyo. Mga totoong tao na hindi kayo ijujudge sa mga decision at actions nyo sa buhay. Wala pong higit na mas magmahahal sayo kundi sarili mo. Besides ky God and Family ofcourse."
