This couple is out to prove that two is better than one. Ador Adrian Gabrieles and Aira Arcamo are true testaments of the power of love.
Why? You see, Adrian was an 18-year-old unemployed, out of school youth when they started out. But despite all this, he promised to send his girlfriend, Aira, to college. This happened when the two were out to go to Marilao, Bulacan when suddenly, Aira cried after receiving a text message.
When Adrian asked for the reason of her behavior, she said:
“Nag-enroll sila, ako na lang ang mapagiiwanan.”
Adrian asked his girl friend if she wanted to finish her studies. She gently nodded.
Ever since then, Adrian did his best not just to provide for their daily needs, but also to pay for her studies.
Adrian started by getting a job as a messenger/bagger in Sanford Marketing or Savemore.
"Naaalala ko pa kung paano ako humarap sa interview, naabutan kase ako ng ulan at basang-basa na humarap sa mga empleyado doon. Himala talaga na nakapasa ako. Eto ang tanging alam kong trabaho na suitable sa katawan ko. Hindi rin ako marunong mag-english para maging call center boy," recalls Adrian.
"Araw-araw, iba’t ibang klase ng m*ra, panglalait, at pangmamata ang naririnig ko sa mga customers pero ang nasa isip ko lang, para kay Aira to, kakayanin ko."
But he had a dilemma to face: Adrian was nearing the end of his contract with Savemore. He had to look for a job real quick.
That's when Adrian pushed himself to study English so he can apply as a call center agent.
Fortunately, Aira was studying English in college so Adrian asked for her help in studying the foreign language.
“Minsan nahihiya na din ako dahil nga naituro na nya tapos nakakalimutan ko agad kinabukasan kaya nag self-study ako," says Adrian.
"Tuwing maghahatid ako ng documents at 50 kilos na saging papuntang Baliwag, Bulacan, kinakausap ko ang sarili ko gamit ang wikang Ingles. Minsan mukha na nga akong baliw.”
Well, all his hard work paid off because he was able to get accepted in a call center company and Aira successfully graduated from college.
When asked about his reason for doing this, Adrian said that he was out to prove that he loves his girl friend so much and that he has good intentions with Aira.
